My computer has been running slow and freezing for seconds at a time off and on.
I looked through my programs via C:\Program Files
and saw a folder for 1Clickdownloader. I deleted the entire folder.
I have run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Spybot Search & Destroy. Both were clean.
I checked my programs again and the 1Clickdownloader folder is still gone/deleted.
I then defragged my computer.
My computer is still running the same. Takes anywhere from 6-15 seconds for it to do anything.
Can you help?
was Malwarebytes updated before you run it?..if not update and run a quick scan
have you run AdwCleaner…it will remove browser/toolbar crap…if there are any
if you want a expert to have a look inside, follow guide and attach a OTL log
I ran AdwCleaner. Below is the attachment.
Computer still hesitates/sticks 6-15 seconds. Especially if I try to use Utorrent. It will download stuff at first, then about 5-10 minutes later, download speed goes from 100-150 down to 1-5. Also, when I try an close Utorrent (when the speed goes down), it takes my computer about 15-30 seconds to close.
In fact, when I try and open any program icon on my desktop computer, Mozilla Firefox, Malwarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy, My Computer, My Documents, anything, it takes 15-30 seconds (sometimes more) to open.
Any idea what could be the problem?
Any idea what could be the problem?attach OTL log....
I hope I did this right. Did you want me to attach the Extras.Txt also?
A bit more than 1 click I feel

[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
- Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
- Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
- If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.
Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now
Here is the OTL log after quick scan. I am fixing to run combofix.
I had a problem with ComboFix. I ran it, and the part where the blue screen is up and it is scanning, it got to number 34 (completed scans), and it stayed there for nearly an hour. I finally clicked the x on top right to x out the program, and words came up on the blue screen asking me if I wanted to quit scan - gave me a Y or N. I thought to myself, ‘it must still be scanning and computer not froze,’ so I tried to type an N, but it wouldn’t let me. I would type the N but it wouldn’t show up on blue screen. I finally clicked the button on my computer to shut it off and then restart. But after clicking button, computer still wouldn’t shut off. I had to shut it off by the extension cord (has red button switch that shuts power off to anything plugged into it - can’t think of the “real” name for it - mind a bit cluttered at the moment, sorry).
Anyways, when I turned the computer back on, I came straight here to report to you.
OK, could you go to safe mode and run combofix from there, but first rename it to gotcha
Ran in safe mode and the program seemed to work fine.
Looks good… Any problems apparent ?
Computer still sluggish, but not as bad as before. Froze up on me just before I posted, but I had Utorrent going. I don’t know much about bandwidth stuff, but maybe it had too much pull causing Firefox to open slowly.
Also, I’ve noticed sometimes when things freeze up, I get these occasional warnings in little gray box
saying:
Warning: Unresponsive Script
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding.
You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script
will complete.
I usually “stop now,” and computer tends to pick up pace again.
Running torrents with this amount of memory 447.48 Mb Total Physical Memory on XP is going to cause slowdowns
Let me know after the removal of my tools if it is any different
Subject to no further problems
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean
A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
:Commands [resethosts] [emptytemp] [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS] [Reboot]
[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
Remove ComboFix
[*]Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled
Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.
We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[]Click OK.

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article and this article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Hmm…all my logs may read well, but I’m still having a bit of trouble I’m afraid.
Computer hesitant. Clicked to open Mozilla Firefox to come here and it took 41 seconds
to open.
Just to log-in here, it took 22 seconds to log in.
I clicked the “enter” button, and it started going…but then…stop/hesitant.hesitant.hesitant.hesitant
(to the slow count of 22) before it finished logging me in.
After I removed all your programs, I ran: Malwarebytes (clean), Spybot Search & Destroy (clean),
Avast! (clean). Then I ran RegCure and it said I had 375 problems under “program shortcuts.”
I clicked the FIX button and it fixed it all. By the way, it took 51 seconds for RegCure to open
after clicking on it.
I did a disk clean-up, and ran disk defrag (all in safe mode).
Then I restarted the computer in normal mode and everything still sluggish (but not actually
freezing to the point I have to turn off the computer at the wall plug).
I ran a Hijack This program and noticed something in the log I hadn’t seen before.
I’m attaching a copy. By the way, it took a count of 18 before it finally attached.
If you pass all the C:\Program listings, about mid-ways down you will see
RO-HKCU - which is normal
but then there is: 01 - Hosts:yp1
that has never shown up before. There has never been an 01.
Don’t know if it is good or bad.
Any ideas what might could be going on?
OK lets work from the left field
Uninstall Zone alarm and let me know if there is a change
I uninstalled Zone Alarm, did a disk clean-up, and defrag.
Next, I added something called NoScript 2.6.4.2. I don’t know if it is any good or not. Maybe you do.
Computer doesn’t seem to be hesitating/or sticking…
However, having trouble using Facebook. It tells me:
“For a better experience on Facebook, enable JavaScript in your browser.”
I have enabled, but still see that notice and cannot post.
Just disabled NoScript 2.6.4.2. and Facebook works fine.
But don’t I need a firewall??
I have DSL - don’t know what speed
Replace ZA with http://www.filehippo.com/download_outpost_firewall/ and see if that keeps a reasonable speed
So far, reasonable speed; HOWEVER, every time new page comes up I get a “firewall report” in bottom right hand of screen, and I don’t know how to shut that off :-[
It states: Incoming connection is allowed
(below it) gives Process, Local Address, Local Port
Can you help me to turn that off so it won’t show up everytime the screen changes?
