Guys, i need your help…my thumb drive was infected by this virus “Win32:VB-BBE” days ago. What it does is changing all the format of the file folder in my thumbdrive to .scr format, which i was unable to open it? Is there anything i can do apart from deleting it? I just finish my uni assignment and i haven’t create a backup copy. What can i do? By the way, if i accidentally open my pendrive in my laptop without first scanning it,(But i didn,t open the weird file folder, anyway), will my computer being infected. I run a boot-scan but anything is detected. Pls help! Thanks

P.S I am using Window XP home and Avast 4.8 with the lastest VPS

By the way, if i accidentally open my pendrive in my laptop without first scanning it,(But i didn,t open the weird file folder, anyway), will my computer being infected
Why not run a scan?

There are many different kinds of malware and the only one that can be removed (to my knowledge) without loosing the files is a true virus since it attaches itself to a file and not corrupts the content.

Here is what I suggest (at least to start with):
1] Disable system restore
2] Disable autorun
3] Do NOT attach the thumbdrive
4] Run a bootscan with avast and have it check ALL files (yes, this can take a while to finish)
5] Run CCleaner
6] Reboot (to make sure all changes have been applied)
7] Search your system for autorun*.* files and delete ALL it finds (make sure showing system/hidden files is enabled)
8] Put in the thumbdrive and run a full scan on it. Have Avast clean everything it can.
9] If avast can’t clean your project files, try to rename one to its original name (eg: myproject.scr > myproject.doc)
10] Try to open the renamed file. If this is working, repeat the renaming for all other files (and try to open them after renaming)
