I have an old Win XP SP2 system that’s running Avast free antivirus version 11.2.2262. On Avast FAQ, I found this statement “It is no longer necessary to register your Avast Free Antivirus as your initial free license automatically activates after installation. When your free license expires, you can let the program automatically renew the license. Alternatively, you can manually activate your 1-year license by following these steps: …”
when I tried to follow the steps outlined for the manual activation, I realized they must be describing a newer Avast user interface, because the Settings screen on my system doesn’t show “Subscription” tab. It shows Registration tab. In the instructions it says "on Subscription tab click Renew Now ", etc. None of this is on the version I am using. My registration screen shows “you are registered”, it shows that current registration will expire in about a month, but it does not have a “renew now”. It does have “Purchase Now” which I tried to see if it will lead to a step similar to the FAQ instructions, but the program is unable to connect to the server. The issue is not internet connection, it’s fine as far as getting updates and it was never able to connect to the server initially for registration (I had manually entered initial activation code).
So I am wondering now if I need to do something or will it automatically renew the license when it expires, as the initial part of the FAQ mentions. If I do want to manually activate, can anyone tell me how it’s done with this older version? As far as I know, I cannot install a newer Avast version on my XP, because it’s running SP2.
thanks a lot,
