i had the same problem as bodboytazz4ever on 11/08/05 “Outlook Provider stuck on “Waiting for subsystem to Start”” and enabled the avast Dll per Vlk’s post 11/10/15…now i keep getting the message “outlook has encountered a problem and needs to shut down” i send error report and get no feed back from microsoft. i’ve paused outlook/exchange for now…
You’ll never get an answer from Microsoft, and it’s not how they work anyway… you send them report so their developers can work on those things to correct them in the future. What would happen if they answer every single mail/report that comes from all around the World…
As far as your problem goes… what happens if you totally disable OUTLOOK/EXCHANGE provider in avast! list ? Can you use MS Outlook after disabling mentioned provider ?
If your answer is yes, then try repairing avast installation (you have to be online when performing that). Go to Windows START / Control Panel / Add/Remove programs and find avast! antivirus in the list. Click on CHANGE/REMOVE and then scroll the list down until you see REPAIR. At first you’ll see just CHANGE, UNINSTALL and UPDATE, but as I already mentioned scroll the list down to see REPAIR (Alwil guys, this should be fixed, it just confuses people).
After that, reboot your computer and enable OUTLOOK/EXCHANGE provider. See what happens when you fire up MS Outlook. If that doesn’t help, my advice is to completely uninstall avast!, reboot, reinstall it from the scratch and reboot again.
Which are your settings for avast plugin into MS Outlook?
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.
The message “The provider is waiting on the subsystem to start” will be shown there until you open MS Outlook.
The plugin should be enabled automatically after that.
I can’t follow your problem without more info… Check the repair that Sasha posted.
