Hi, I just did a custom scan to scan EVERYTHING on my computer and it found 16 files infected with Trojans, but when I get to the results page to take action it wont let me do anything. The big APPLY button at the bottom isn’t clickable, and I cant do any action against all the infected files. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also I am running the free version of Avast.
If you did a custom scan of everything those 16 files are most likely memory of signatures from something like sas or Mbam, and therefore cannot be removed as there not really infections, but virus signatures.
Custom Scan - Detections in Memory -
My guess is that you have elected to scan Memory in your Custom scan and that all these detections are in memory. Since they aren’t physical files they can’t be moved to the chest, deleted, etc. so there is no action that can be taken, hence the Apply button being greyed out.
The detections in memory are frequently other security applications loading unencrypted virus signatures into memory. Having set off a scan of memory by an antivirus application looking for virus signatures, don’t be too surprised if it finds some in memory.
So if you can give some examples of the items in the list and the type of scan you did it will help us to help you.
What other security applications do you have installed ?

- With a resident on-access antivirus like avast, the need for frequent on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part the on-demand scan is going to be scanning files that would be otherwise be dormant or inert. If they were active files then the on-access file system shield would be scanning them before being created, modified, opened or executed.
I have avast set to do a scheduled weekly Quick scan, set at a time and day that I know the computer will be on.
If you want something more, the other pre-defined Full System Scan is an other option, but I certainly feel a custom scan is overkill unless there is a specific reason for it ?
