Need help with uninstalling Avast from XP-desktop...

OR being able to either repair, update, uninstall etc…
Made the mistake some months back and “protected the Client” with a password on both of my computers. On the laptop (Vista) I didn’t have a problem however on my XP-DT the password comes back as WRONG therefore cannot update etc.

What to do to? either reset the password, eliminate it altogether, uninstall the program and re-install the new version and yes I do have the Free Avast.
Thanks for your help!

Get and use the uninstall tool.

Download Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel

[]Run the uninstall tool and accept the reboot to safe mode
[
]Once complete reboot your system
[*]Reinstall Avast

tried today about 5x and doesn’t work, can’t even find the remove button and then prompts me again for the password which is the same on my laptop but for some odd reason is not accepted on the DT.
HELP or any other suggestions.

did you run the uninstall tool? https://www.avast.com/en-eu/uninstall-utility

Yes, I downloaded the uninstall tool, also the newest version, disconnected and then restarted in SAFE MODE and “opened” the downloaded avastclear.exe.
It self-extracted opened a few files, NO remove button though!
Any other suggestions?

The uninstall tool is not asking for a password.
Run it and select the version you want to remove.

Don’t know what you are doing, but the uninstall is not asking for a password.
There is ofcourse the option to delete avast manually.

  • Remove all files and registry entries.
  • Reboot
  • Run CCleaner (clean files and registry)
  • Reboot.
  • Run the avast uninstall tool.
