Okay, so I have already installed Macrium Reflect Free 5.0 on my sister’s computer.
I tried to get an image of the Hard Drive.
I seemed to enter all the Info I was prompted for.
But, at the end, I just seemed to reach a point where I didn’t know what to press or do to finally get it to create the image and send it to my Flash Drive.
What am I missing?
What are the steps to get the image and send it to my Flash Drive?
Could i just point out i had a problem restoring an image with macrium.it would not recognise my external hard drive so im not sure if the same problem will exist with flash drives also. :o
Okay, so are you saying that even if it shows that only 4.9G is “Selected” out of the 80G Hard Drive … and I was trying to send it to my 16G Flash Drive, which has around 11.2G Free … it still wouldn’t be enough Free Space? So then are you saying that the Hard Drive Image actually takes an image of even the empty FREE Space and thus I would need probably over 100G to get the Drive Image?
YAY! I did it! I created the Drive Image. YES!
I know what I did wrong previously. The 1st time around, I deselected the “RUN the Backup” option at that time. I thought that meant it might try to run an existing Backup Drive Image at that time. So, I was leery that the Hard Drive could get messed up. So, I deselected it.
The 2nd time around, after reading the steps again, I interpreted that “Run the Backup” option differently. So, I left it selected. And VOILA! The Drive Image was created … AND sent to my Flash Drive.
Question 1: I take it that Drive Image includes not only the Windows XP Pro OS, but also ALL the Apps and whatever Files, Pics, Docs & Stuff are in that Hard Drive?
Question 2: I take it that during the creation of the Drive Image, the Info was compressed?
Because 4.9 Gig had been selected … yet the Drive Image is only 2,470,555 Bytes.
If this is the case, then I might have to use this Macrium Reflect on MY HP Pavilion.
Make sure you have your sister perform a daily backup of files, pics, etc. If you ever have to restore the image, anything that is created, modified, etc. after the image was created will not be restored (will be lost).
Ahhh, yes. 50% compression is about what it looks like took place.
As to them making daily Backup copies of Files, etc.?
Ehhh, they’re not the typical Pack Rats that the rest of us are. ;D
This is their 3rd computer since they first got a computer and they’ve just never been into saving stuff.
My sister doesn’t even use the computer. She says that after being on a computer all day long, she has no desire to use another one at home. Only my brother-in-law and my niece use it. And they really only Surf and E-mail. My brother-in-law does plenty of ebay stuff, but otherwise never really saves anything of any consequence. Cuz I once suggested that they get a Flash Drive to save their stuff on and they said they don’t have any stuff to save that matters.
So, that Drive Image would be sufficient to get that computer going again to the state at which they use it.
