NEED MAJOR HELP

Been using AVAST for months now,
Run into a major problem.

For some reason tonight, seeing this when sending email
Email shut down…

“Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: ‘pop-server’, Server: ‘pop-server’, Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F”

It worked fine before(months). Uninstalled AVAST, emails got through, after re-installing AVAST, same thing!

My skills are low,and the funny thing,
Can’t get email help.

Please advise!

Although I don’t know that I personally can be of help, it will help the others when they do check in here if you leave another message for them with a little more information :slight_smile: Would help to know what email program you are using, what OS, etc. k? :slight_smile:

outlook express

read abit here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=10635.msg90693#msg90693

and a workaround for the SSL problem here:

I suggest dump Outlook Express and get Thunderbird, Outlook is just a sign that says “Kill my computer now while it’s still running!” :slight_smile:

I don’t thing this has anything to do wit an SSL problem ase the connection wasn’t SSL “Secure(SSL): No,”, the message format isn’t very clear ‘Secure(SSL)=No,’ would be better.

It does sound like a timeout issue as in your first link, however, that shouldn’t disconnect “unexpectedly terminated the connection” but give you the timeout, do you want to wait YES or NO, answering NO would disconnect.

@ GhosTT
What were you sending, email with large attachment, etc.?

This is not resolving the problem but avoiding it and I wouldn’t install Thunderbird, it isn’t as flexible as OE. Thunderbird lasted less than 1 hour on both the occasions I installed it before it was uninstalled.

Why, it wasn’t as flexible as OE:
it creates an inbox for each email account (yes you can use a global inbox, I have 8 email accounts);
it didn’t move the email folders to another location to make backups easier (just creates the default inbox, etc. in that location);
it messed up some of the conversions (email in the wrong folders, I have 127 email folders);
it doesn’t have a help file, not very friendly for inexperienced users.

My OE is being run with MS Drop My Rights (much more secure than using OE from a windows user account with administrator rights). It is possible to secure OE to make it less vulnerable.

This message can be caused by problems with your mail server. Wait a day or so to see if it goes away. If you can’t wait, check with your ISP to see if they have any server problems.
