Need opinion on the way I fixed "csrss.exe" issue

hi everyone-

yesterday I surfed a malicious site and my out-dated mcaffee anti-virus program gave a security warning.
It said something like “attemt to change registry”, but it obviously did not do anything because my computer got infected.

This was obvious because the firefox browser was too slow and occasionally it was redirected to some other website.

There was also a change in my proxy settings, something I didn’t do.

So, first I uninstalled the useless mcaffee, and then installed the avast free program.

I ran a full-system check, avast did find a few things, but they were irrelevant. Problem persisted.

Then I ran a boot-time scan, and avast found some other things, including one csrss.exe file.

When Windows came up, there was a new alarm, saying something like this: “csrss.exe cannot be found, delete the registry entry C:/users/…/appData/Local/Temp/csrss.exe”.

So, there I understood that the problem was caused by the malicious csrss.exe trojan.

This trojan mimics the actual csrss.exe file, which is a necessary file for Windows to operate normally.

I surfed the web and found comments which said that this is an especially tricky trojan and that this trojan is especially difficult to erase.

Well, obviously, those difficulties did not apply to avast, because avast boot-time scan was able to remove the trojan.

Then I went ahead and deleted the mentioned registry entry.

It is dangereous to play around with the registry, but this time I was sure it would be all right, because csrss.exe file is a system file and it should be under /Windows/System32 or something like that, and not under /users/…/temp folder.

When I deleted that registry entry, that registry alarm at startup disappeared as well.

By the way, before I ran a boot-time scan with avast, I ran a check with SpyHunter(free to check but requires payment to fix the issue) and it found the trojan as well. It displayed a note saying that this trojan messes up with the proxy settings. So, this kinda explains the operation of the trojan.

Anyway, after the avast boot time scan, I ran the SpyHunter again and this time it found nothing.

Now, I guess my system is healthy, but I will appreciate any opinions on this, regarding whther or not I am still under risk.

Note: My theory on how avast was able to clear this trojan is the power of the boot-time scan. When Windows is up and running, the csrss.exe process cannot be killed, since it mimics the actual system process. But before booting, it can be killed without issues, I guess…

Please, fix your formatting so that each and every sentence does not start on a new line. Use paragraphs. I for one refuse to read this, highly annoying to say at least.

You must be cautious while you are surfing the web. There are many viruses out there like file infectors which can completely destroy your computer and it will be too late to clean it as they infect system32 processes.
