I browsed the forum but did not see any topics that seemed to match my inquiry. I will post here.
Here is my dilemma:
I have been using Avast for over two years now. I am a college student that lives on campus. Just recently our UTS (University Technical Support) installed this program called, “Cisco Clean Access Agent” where every time I turn on my computer, I must LOG IN with this program in order to use the Internet, instead of just having the Internet on all the time. This Cisco Clean Access Agent allows you on the Internet only if you have a pre-approved virus protection program.
I recently downloaded the newest upgrade for Avast – 4.7. As soon as I did, the Cisco Clean Access Agent refused to let me use the Internet. I called UTS and asked what the problem was, and apparently the newest version of Avast has yet to be approved. Until it is approved, I cannot fully use the internet until I have a “competent” virus scanner.
So here is my question:
How can I downgrade my Avast! 4.7 to 4.6?
Do I have to uninstall Avast! and reinstall it from the website? Is there an easy way of downgrading from 4.7 to 4.6? What should I do?
It’s not a good idea to downgrade… There are a lot of features on 4.7 that are not on 4.6, security and protection are involved.
You’ll need to install from the scratch.
I suggest an installation from the scratch:
I understand that it is not a good idea to downgrade; I fully agree with you. However, unless I wish to continue using the Internet at my dorm, I must have the older version of Avast until they approve 4.7. It is preposterous, but there is not much else I can do. I do not feel comfortable using any other anti-virus software.
Thank you for including the steps. Hopefully I will be able to use 4.7 soon.
Well, that’s not good. I just got off the phone with UTS again and they have no clue when they will approve of the upgrade. Guess I’m stuck. Thanks anyway.
When Avast changed from 4.6 to 4.7 they changed something to do with the version string. Because of this Cisco doesn’t know when Avast last updated. Also, in my control panel, windows thinks I haven’t used avast since 03/10/2007. It’s basically the same problem.
I’m forced to use Cisco at uni too, so I converted to AVG. Sorry avast!
