Need to manually start realtime shields

Hi all,

I’m new to this forum, and I need some help. I’ve downloaded and installed Free Avast 5.0. The program is running fine, but I think I may have a problem. Whenever I start or restart my computer, I’m using Vista Home Premium, I have to manually start the Real-Time shields. I never had this problem before the upgrade. Is this a normal requirement for the free version of Avast 5.0? Any help/solution someone can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try avast repair

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

It is not the normal requirement to have to manually start the shields.

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Hello there folks,

I’m having the same problem as the poster who started this thread. I’m running XP Professional, and up until recently I had Norton Antivirus installed; I uninstalled that through add/remove programs in Control Panel.

I have run a repair on Avast, but that’s not shifted the problem, unfortunately.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Stu_the_elder:

The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2003-2010 products from your computer.

  1. (If possible) Remove Symantec products through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
  2. Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me. Boot.
  3. Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.

And, you must use the Norton removal tool. Ad/remove Programs is not good enough to remove all the crap left behind by Norton.

Thank you all - that appears to have cleared it!
