We are in the process of upgrading our Citrix farm to Windows Server 2008 x64 (terminal services). I have two servers identically setup and have installed the NetServerClient (4.8.1005) via an .MSI. When accessing the internet (IE 7) on these machines – web pages load very slowly if at all. Randomly if you click the refresh button they will load or partially load. I have tried troubleshooting this and have come to the conclusion it is Avast causing the issue, as when I disable all the Avast services running on these servers, IE loads web pages quickly without issue. Note: We have the Windows Firewall turned completely off on these boxes.
Any assistance or recommendations would be appreciated.
Update on my testing: All Avast services can be turned on except “avast! Web Scanner” and browsing on IE 7 works fine. When “avast! Web Scanner” is turned on, web browsing is extremely slow or does not present the page at all. (But random of which it will perform – just never performs like it should when the “avast! Web Scanner” is turned on.)
Yes … I’ve reinstalled several times and also did installs on new clean Server 2008 SP2 TS server boxes. I’m now also having the same problem with a Vista SP2 machine.
I have disabled the “Avast! Web Scanner” service on these machines as an only way to get IE to run correctly.
I have no other “security” software (i.e. McAfee, Symantec, etc.) installed on these machines and never had. The only other security software running is Microsoft Windows Defender. I do have corporate hardware firewalls (but not software firewall on the machines, including Windows Firewall).
I fear for having this turned off so long. I hope a resolution is found soon.
try turning of windows defender, you can do this with a GPO if wanted… windows defender basicly does the same as avast does i guess and 2 programs accessing the same thing for the same thing (scanning) could slow it down i guess…
Yes I have disabled Win Defender. Also completely uninstalled and reinstalled the client following this (both Vista & 2008 boxes). Same problem. Also had another Vista 32 bit user today report this issue. Another PC I have had to turn off the Web scanner. Hopefully Avast 5 is released soon and the ADNM is updated with a release at the same time that fixes these issues.
In the interim, any others with knowledge of this issue, I would appreciate your recommendations.
