I’ve receive today a suspicious mail with attached file “dat.scr”…
AVAST don’t detect any viruse in this mail…
I try many online antivirus and only kaspersky found a virus in this file : Netsky.Q
Yet, i’ve the latest pattern file (29/03/2004)…
I’ve put the file in the Chest…
Why Avast not found the virus ? ???

I’m pretty sure avast! can detect NetSky-Q because i just archived one yesterday and it was doublechecked with multiple antivirus programs including avast!.
Make sure your mail protection is set correctly (Mail protection Wizard) or check if Outlook/Exchange splash screen appears when you run Outlook (not Outlook Express).
yes all is OK because avast detecte correctly eicar_test and all the other netsky that i receive by mail…
Please send the file to virus@avast.com - it could be corrupted sample or maybe ome new variant? We need to take a look on it in order to decide

Well, it is the same sample which we received in the morning - it is really only the corrupted fragment of the virus. You might see it is 3024 bytes long only while Netsky-Q is about 28000 bytes long…
Do you have another sample?

mr_dus are you on dial-up? This ussually corrupts files when transfering.

Unfortunately, I have received data.scr 3025 bytes long (again) and then the “Delivery error report.dat” - text file 199 bytes long ???

dial-up ?? → i’ve got an usb adsl modem and i’ve the internet connection windows to connect to the net… what is dial up ?
Dial-up is a connection to Internet through a telephone modem, a temporary connection. Is an ‘ancient’ type of connection as now everybody uses a permanent connection (ADSL) ;D (just joking… dial-up is used by a significant number of Internet users yet…).
