Network Issues after Upgrade

I’ve also posted this in another forum here but was recommended to post it here too:

I’ve inherited a system that was protected with a centrally managed version of Avast. Sadly, the password has been lost over time and the system is no longer managable. I tried various things, as suggested on this forum, to get back into the management console, to no avail. I ended up uninstalling the management console. I’ve tried to uninstall the clients but I required the password to do so. I used the uninstall utility to remove the software but it’s not done so cleanly - there are still registry entries and a service that I cannot manage. When installing Avast 5 Pro manually, the networking becomes unstable. Users are not able to consistently save to network shares. They’re all running Vista with the latest updates.

Is there a way of cleanly uninstalling the product? I get the feeling I will be re-installing these clients from the OS up, which is a good bit of work I’d rather not do!

Really, all that should have been needed would be to remove the ADNM console from the server and re-install. The current clients should accept the new admin credentials and start being controlled by the new installation.

Remember, Avast V5 cannot be controlled by ADNM due to the fact that Alwil hasn’t released a network (netclient) version of V5 yet. For now, we must stick with 4.8 unfortunately.

For the clients where you tried to remove the program via the uninstall tool, I’d just re-deploy clients after you reinstall the ADNM console. I’d assume that they’d just over-write the current entries in the registry and should work ok.

I really doubt that you’d have to rebuild every PC…

Thanks for the reply. I’ve since installed ADNM on the server, but as the licenses are v5, they don’t appear to work with ADNM. I guess I would need to purchase v4.8 licenses for ADNM instead of Pro to fix that.

You have to change licence.dat file, instead purchase license (and pay twice) Contact your reseller or avast customer support.

Did you use aswcleaner correctly? I wonder that there are some registry entries. Try it again, boot into Windows emergency mode.

I’m still waiting for Avast customer support to respond to my ticket. How long do they normally take? Could you point me in the direction of some instructions for what I have to change in the licence.dat file? I’ve tried several times to run aswclear in Safe Mode but it doesn’t make any difference.

It sometimes pays to buy via a UK partner to get local support with a 4hr SLA.

Alwil take 7-21 days to respond depending how busy. log a ticket on http://avosec.zendesk.com and we will try to help if we can.
