Network Shield enable error and install freezes

Hi. So this might be a bit lengthy…
I woke up a couple days ago to Avast frozen on its weekly scan. It stayed at 0% and my computer was acting wonky. I couldnt go to any programs nor could I load websites without no progress. So I had to hard shut down the PC and turn back on. I tried to manually run a scan but the same thing happened. I uninstalled avast in safe mode using the removal utility. During a reinstall, it would freeze after I clicked “next” on the Registration area of set up. I waited and it just stayed Not Responding so I closed it. Avast still installed but when I loaded it, protection was in red. I either hit ‘turn on’ or ‘resolve all’. It would only resolve any issue where I’d get a yellow protection screen. I couldnt go any further though as clicking either resolve button wouldnt do anything, and then later I’d get an error message saying- The following components could not be started: Network Shield.

I tried to uninstall with Add/Remove Programs but it would freeze when almost complete. No matter which I tried -Uninstall, Repair, Change, it would freeze. I went with closing it and booted into safe mode to use the removal utility again, boot back normally and reinstall. Same thing is happening. So I’m really stuck. I’d like to continue using this product. I’ve been using Avast for a while now and had no problems before.

My computer is a Windows Vista x64 SP2 with 4GB RAM, also running MBAM Pro, SuperantiSpyware Free, and Spybot SD (no teatimer).

Thanks in advance!

you dont need it when you have Malwarebytes..... and SpyBot is no good with todays malware

Spybot’s managed to find things that MBAM couldn’t. Hm…I think I’ve been okay since I’ve had Avast around though.

I’ve already used that method twice. I hope there’s another way…

Spybot's skill at cleaning up malware-infested systems is mediocre, and it has almost no ability to protect a clean system. Back in its heyday it was deservedly popular, but that day has long passed. For modern threats you'll need a modern spyware protector.

In testing, it proved almost 100 percent ineffective.

Haha…I needed to restart my computer for another reason and now it’s working. It didn’t say it needed a restart but perhaps that was because setup froze.

All is well for now~
