New ADNM server - updating clients

I recently moved to a new server. Most of the clients updated without issue, but three are giving me trouble. In the avast4.ini file, the server address is correct, but LastServerAddress still has the address of the old server. These machines will not contact the server. Per the manual, I’ve tried removing this line and registry keys. However, I keep getting access denied errors, and am unable to edit the file or remove the keys. I’ve tried stopping all services with no luck. One of the machines is Vista Business (other two are XP Pro) with UAC disabled, and I’ve tried running as administrator anyway. All actions were performed under a domain admin account. Any hints?

what was it that you get access denied?
maybe you can run the avast uninstaller tool that is free for download and remove those 3 clients with that tool and delete them from the console, then redeploy them from the console from your new server?

I’m not able to edit avast4.ini, or remove the registry keys for LastServerAddress. This is with Avast services stopped, so I’m not sure what’s preventing me - the manual doesn’t say anything about it, just that I should be able to make these changes. I’ll try the removal tool.

just to be sure a silly question: you checked which rights your user that you tried to edit with has on the directory where editted?

Yes, I gave myself (domain admin account) full control of the folder, file, everything. Same error.

Removing completely does work, but is a bit of a hassle. It’s not really bad for just three clients.

glad its solved with the hassle way

i guess this is one of those quircks we admins have to live with (or at least thats how i can accept it ;))

How do u solve it ?

I have the same prob on 20 workstation … i need to edit the avast4.ini

Thanks
