I just got the manual Avast 4.8 update on my Win98SE computer. I was noticing that 4.8 comes with new Anti-Spyware + Rootkit protection. I am currently using Super AntiSpyware Free as well as Spyware Blaster (which prevents spyware from getting on my computer in the first place). Will the Avast 4.8 Anti-Spyware functionality replace the requirement for running Super AntiSpyware Free? Will I be running too many spyware programs (I will keep Spyware Blaster)? I am a non-techie, so please make your reply easy to follow. Thanks
I’m in the same boat (Spyware Blaster) and would also welcome some advice on this. I also have a Vista laptop with Avast! installed. Can I turn off Windows Defender?
Leave them both, SAS (free) is an on demand scanner and SpywareBlaster is preventative pasive form of protection.
There is nothing wrong with a layered/multi application approach to your protection. You do have to exercise care in resident on-access anti-virus applications, but we haven’t seen any compatibility issues with other anti-spyware during the beta trials.
got a question …when i first installed 4.8 i didn’t check the start up boot scan-how do you schedule it after you installed 4.8 already & is the root and spyware scan included in the overall scan…and is the spyware part of avast considered a realtime as with the spyware terminator i am using now or just a scanner
Answered in another post of yours, which you modified, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=34249.msg286828#msg286828.
Thanks for your prompt, informative reply. I shall continue to use SAS + Spyware Blaster + thanks for Avast Home, truly, in my non-techie opinion, an excellent virus protection program. Thanks again.
No problem, glad I could help.
