New asqaured compatible?

Is version 3 of a-squared (released some time last week or something) compaible with Avast home edition (just wondering as it comes with a free 30 day period in which it runs its own real time protection, so would this real time protection conflict with Avasts real time protection?)

I doubt there is anything different in version 3 that would make it incompatible with avast as I assume it is still and on-demand anti-spyware scanner.

I have been using the 30 day trial of a-squared for about a week or so, and I haven’t encountered any compatibility problems yet.

Is that version3 mate and do you get the 30 day trial of the full product included within the free installation file or as a seperate install option?

ps how does spyware blaster work if it doesn’t run in real time???

http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download This is to a-squared’s downloads page. And if you want the 30 day trial, you’ll need to download a-squared anti-malware, which is the first product listed on their download’s page.

a-squared is avast compatible.
Just that a-squared could give you (a lot of) false positives. Take care.
Oh, only a-squared anti-malware has a expiration period, not a-squared free version.

ps how does spyware blaster work if it doesn't run in real time?
Spywareblaster works by putting what is called a kilbit next to known bad GUID's within the registry therefore stopping them from being installed or activated. It also adds to the zone area of the registry known bad sites with a re-direct to your system, therefore nothing can access those sites if you get infected they just go into a loop and page not found (although you will not see this)

Hope that helps

I have read that a-squared has a few issues and people have needed to reinstall it, but I worry that when I install it, it wont remove fully for me to attempt to reinstall it, does anyone know how common this problem is or how I can remove remenants of programs after uninstallation?

For me, I have no trouble on uninstalling a-squared. Although, most of the time it updates and upgrades automatically.
For a full removal, try http://www.revouninstaller.com/revosetup.exe

Have you had any problems with it as their forums are buzzing with complaints about a process that stays running all the time and is never removed by uninstalling, but I’m anxious to get one more anti malware program?

Which process? Which file name? A service?

Is this a question or an assertive?

No I was just looking for an anti-malware program that I can use in conjunction with adaware that has few problems (ie crashing, installing issues etc) and has good detection rates?

I don’t know what the process was that was mentioned just that it didn’t remove itself after uninstall and was continously running in the background even though its a on-demand scanner.

I suggest (in this order):
AVG Antispyware
SUPERantispyware
Spyware Terminator
or a-squared (take care about false positives)

Strange… if it is running, which is his name?

http://forum.emsisoft.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=2181 - this is the topic about the process

Does this service remains in your system after uninstalling? I think it’s removed on normal uninstallation. Anyway, we can get rid of it deleting files and registry keys.

Just installed a-squared. Running perfectly with Avast! Home. Nice simple product with context menu scan. Works well - I’m pleased with it.

No. I’m sad to quote myself to report a very bad uninstallation of a-squared.
I’ve tried on a XP SP2+ computer and remains:

  1. Service
  2. Legacy drivers
  3. Context-menu handler
  4. Registry keys
  5. Files

It’s just unbelivable… It’s a ridiculous uninstall tool. Another very negative point to a-squared… I just can’t believe :o :o

Very odd - I just uninstalled a-squared to test your findings and there was nothing left other than the log file. All directory entries and the context menu handler were gone. I am now going to re-install…

I’ve used to update and upgrade a-squared at that computer. Maybe this makes the difference.
Other possibility is because I was not using the default installation folder.
But I’m not surprised that a-squared behaves different from one system to another.
I have very bad experiences with it…
