Thank you, Alikhan and Bob for taking time to answer my post.
With all respect, I will have to differ this time.
I think that saying that “we rarely have to use the UI of an antivirus”, or saying that “we don’t need to use the UI because we can use the Tray Icon”, sounds like to settle for a lesser quality product.
It is the same thing with the idea that we must not care for the Avast UI because the “really important” issue is the protection that Avast gives us.
And this sounds contradictory to me because Avast has offered us such a quality product for many years. I don’t see why do we have to settle for a non-first-quality product this time, taking so much time to fix a “minor issue” (and other issues) like this.
I think a world-class product like Avast is meant to give their users the best quality experience in all aspects. As an user, I should be able to use the UI or any feature of the program I wish, with no inconveniences. I am sure that’s the aim of Avast.
I agree at this moment of time it isn’t very good. It will be improved in future version but the other bugs needs to be solved first. It isn’t a major issue, although, can be annoying sometimes.
Well, this version seems to be running smoothly. Having given it a couple of days and seen that there were very few posts, with most of those about the UI, I decided to try it.
2288, although supposedly a full release, engendered a lot of complaints, so I skipped that one.
Re. the UI: the basic black panel starts in <1s, then is populated in 3s after that. On subsequent visits the whole UI is instantaneous.
This version mainly works fine. Only one issues that is annoying.
When ever I upgraded my driver for my wireless connection, I can not connect to internet.
Windows show that the connection was established, but no internet.
This problems could be resolved immediately by disabling firewall component of avast.
I basically used a university based internet, requiring an account and a password .(It seems this is universal all across the world).
Other issues are still there but I personally have found some solutions:
-UI scale problem. By moving taskbar to the left or right side of the monitor, I can reach the bottom that were hidden behind the task bar.
-compatibility issue with mactype ( see here for more info: http://www.mactype.net/). However it seems that Microsoft improved the font rendering in windows 10 RS2, thus now i can put up with the font display without being enhanced by mactype.
