Thanks to everyone who helped testing.

Hi everyone,

here I am again. (I know, I know, it’s been a while… :))

We will soon be releasing a new program update of avast; and as usual, we’re making it available for public testing a few days before the official release.
Edit: now updated to build 6.0.1086.

This is hopefully going to be a smooth service release, designed to fix some of the issues of the original v6.0.1000 build.

Here’s the list of the most important changes:

  • solved an incompatibility with ZoneAlarm (WinXP)
  • improved installation of the WebRep plugins (especially Firefox)
  • solved a crash condition in the avast sandbox
  • setup programs now smaller by ~20%
  • Community features and the Welcome screen can now be turned on/off directly from program settings
  • solved an incompatibility with Outpost firewall
  • solved a bug related to the AutoSandbox offer (WinXP)
  • gadget can now be removed by simply closing it
  • new setup icons

New in v6.0.1027:

  • attempt to fix new compatibility problems with GameGuard and sXe rootkits
  • SafeZone improvements
  • localization updates (including WebRep)
  • improved sandbox logging)
  • SafeZone is now a standalone setup package (can be installed/uninstalled separately)

New in v6.0.1035:

  • solved Firefox WebRep plugin on non-English Windows
  • solved a few incompatibility problems in BehavShield (e.g. TeraCopy)
  • improvements in password processing
  • improvements in the program uninstaller
  • sandbox improvements
  • fixed various UI issues introduced in the previous pre-release build

New in v6.0.1044:

  • solved a memory leak in the avast gadget
  • solved a few things in WebRep
  • autosandbox-related fixes
  • WinXP: File System Shield not doing repetitive scans anymore
  • improvements in SafeZone isolation
  • improvements in the avast! sandbox (better TDL shielding etc)
  • localization updates

And new in v6.0.1086:

  • more fixes in the AutoSandbox processing
  • added Chrome WebRep plugin
  • optimizations in the File System Shield’s transient cache
  • various stability/compatibility improvements

You can either install from scratch, or over an existing installation of avast (any version). Users of the previous pre-release builds (6.0.1021, 6.0.1027, 6.0.1035, 6.0.1044) can also use the built-in program updater.

Thanks
Vlk

I just updated via the GUI. Rebooting.

Same here, will test Chrome Web Rep

Updated using the built-in program updater. No problems so far.

Chrome WebRep extension working fine here, as is entire program.

Did you resolve the problem with Windows Media Player that becomes red ? Because it comes from AVAST 6, when I uninstalled AVAST 6, Windows Media Player went to its normal colour.
And I had a problem with the search function of windows explorer : when I opened the search page, it staid blank.
I noticed another problem that was with all AVAST : it makes YouTube slow. The video “buffering” is slow and when the video is playing, it stops 5 - 10 seconds later. With KASPERSKY, the videos play perfectly. I am sure of that because I have a high connection 10 mb since november 2008 so I can watch youtube videos since this date … and I already had AVAST and since november 2008, so since I can watch youtube videos there are problems when playing Youtube videos. And there are no problems with KASPERSKY now.
To be honnest, because of all these problems I uninstalled AVAST and I installed KASPERSKY but KASPERSKY is too heavy for my computer. So if all the problems with AVAST 6 could be resolved, it would be great. I didn’t buy any licence for KASPERSKY yet, there are 27 days remaining before the free version stops, so it would be great if the problems could be resolved
I wanted to install AVAST 5 again, but I don’t have the installer anymore and there will be certainly no infections updates anymore very soon.
Thank you very much in anticipation

configuration : windows XP 2002 version SP3 - 2.17 GHz - 1.00 Gb RAM.

Updated via GUI. No problems so far; Chrome WebRep displays as expected.

Update from 6.0.1044 UI on XP Pro and win7 x86 and rebooted, no issues in the update or reboot.

yeah not much to say except that webrep (for those interested) runs fine in Chrome. Nice thing in Chrome is that you can disable add-ons on the fly ;D .

Hi there!

Updateted from GUI. (6.0.1044)
I had only one small bug with this early release. WebRep modul vs. Google search bug. (I mean green icon; refresh)

Now, working well.

Bye and really thanks this release!
Cool!

oups minor issue with WebRep in Chrome (dev 12.0.733.0). Thought it was just the first launch but that happens again: WebRep remains inactive (grey) when first web page displayed in Chrome at startup; reloading the page (or launching any new page) activates WebRep. Then webrep keeps working for the whole session. As said that’s reproducible.

Does it solve the WebRep + Gmail + FF4 bug that cause an additional “sign” after the outcoming mails?

You only know if you try it.

Yeh, smooth update on XP’s via Gui.(From 1044-1086)
What else is new.
Thanks 8)

Downloaded, installed. I’ll try It tommorow…

I am not at home :‘( :’(

Greetz, Red.

Sorry to hear that Red.
I have had absolutely no problems since 5.1.

Updated via UI, restarted and it’s running smooth like silk.
So far for my system no problem at all.
Will do some more intensive tests tomorrow, but I really do not expect any bad things. On the first glance the snags I had are all solved in .1086  :-*

that’s all you’re missing

as to the bug I reported here about webrep in Chrome:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=76349.msg631966#msg631966

…sounds like Chrome “stable” is not affected. Could also be one of my extensions conflicting… I’ll troubleshoot that later.
