Hello…
I’ve ust updated to the new Avast. Not sure if I think it’s an improvement yet.
I’m on Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) with 8Gb Ram and have used Avast for a long time without any problems.
However, after the update, I found opening any Word document for the first time took ages!
I went into File System Shield and disabled ‘Scan Documents When Opening’ then restarted.
Again, opening a Word document (even a new document!) took ages.
When I tried closing the document, it won’t respond. Consequently I have to go into the Start Manager and close it there.
Subsequent opening of the Word document is fine…fast as it should be.
So why is this happening?..Really annoying!
Would appreciate any help…
Had enough of this program version…Given me nothing but hassle, even though I’ve changed nothing else on my system since the previous update.
Avast 8 is slowing my fast system down online or offline!
No matter what I untick in the Shields that might have a bearing, it’s still the same annoyances. What are you playing at Avast???
I get the strong feeling this version has allowed itself to be blinded to the very real shortcomings of Windows 8 and has ignored Windows 7 in the process, introducing bugs into Win7 which were never there before.
I had to uninstall Avast completlely and run a System Image to get back to the ‘old’ version.
All I can say is Version 7 is now on my computer and works perfectly…I won’t be updating to Avast 8 anytime soon.
Now, after years of Avast, am looking at other AV programs to install instead.
BTW, Software Updater is an unnecessary bloat!!..
Please stick to what you do (or did) best, Avast and stop trying to be too clever for your own good!!
No wonder Microsoft love you…their ‘updates’ cause untold problems too!
Uninstall avast!7 1st from add/remove and then use this http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility the link that i gave you run it in safe mode. Download avast!8. Reply back if u experience any problems.
If you still experience the same problem after installing avast!8. Keep avast!8 and uninstall MS Office and download Kingsoft Office Suite Free http://www.kingsoftstore.com/kingsoft-office-freeware.html. I use that too. It’s got everything Office, Excel, and PowerPoint and is compatible with MS Office Suites and it’s also similar to MS Office Suites.
