New Avast programme downloaded: now I have no Real-Time shield. [RESOLVED]

I was prompted to download new Avast programme, but I cannot get the Real-time shield or the e-mail shield to work. I press the FIX NOW button but nothing happens. I have turned off the Firewall (Outpost) but still nothing happens. A virus still lurking in there?

I am also unable to download from http://www.avast.com/en-gb/free-antivirus-download

PS - it seems that it is only the mail shield that is not on.

did you try avast repair ?

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
