New Avast-Tray-Icon is spoiling the Tray

The blue avast-tray-icons were very nice with a nice font - but the new orange tray-icon is not only disgusting from it’s orange color, but also has a featherbrained looking symbol (sorry, but it’s only some poor stereotype-copy of the letter “a”) - so it is really spoiling the nice look of the tray.

How can I change the always visible tray icon to something as nice as it was in version 4.8 - or at least change the color to something other than orange?

You can’t change the icon appearance.
You can avoid swirling or you can hide it.

I think the new orange icon looks fine.

I don’t much care for the new orange icon or color scheme either, ProloSozz. :frowning: Orange has ALWAYS been my least favorite color. Hate it! But then I don’t much like Comodo CIS’s new red GUI color scheme either. :frowning:

It’s a well-known fact orange and red are in the “hot” color spectrum that agitate & annoy many. Blues and greens, on the other hand, in the “cool” color spectrum, are considered to be soothing and peaceful for most people.

That said, I like Avast5 and Comodo Firewall + DefensePlus so much I’m willing to put up with the new color schemes of both products. They perform their jobs well. So I consider myself like Spock, a sacrifice the needs of the one for the needs of the many. (or something close to that wording)

The original blue icon was trademarked by some other company and it looms exactly the same.
And since the entire interface is themed in orange, they used it as well for the trey. I hated it at first as well, but after few corrections it looks just fine once you get used to it. In fact, the blue one looks weird to me now. I just stop the swirling, but you can completely hide it if you want.

I am more concerned with program quality and reliability than the color of the icon. And note that this latest build 5.0.462 has worked flawlessly for me.

Thank you Avast!

Jack

I just installed 5.0.462 and the icon is weird! I’m attaching a screenshot of my system tray. The avast icon is the one on the right! Yes, I have maximum colors enabled for icons.

I don’t mind the orange icon but what I have is a mess.

This is Windows 2000, right?

Change your font color to orange. Then the now beautiful orange Icon will go nicely with the fonts. ;D

Yes, indeed. Is that my problem? Should I reinstall the older version or can I keep this one?

Hallo Vlk,
my Englisch is not so good, but i hope, you know, what I mean.

I have the same problem with the avast-icon in avast!-Free Antivirus V.5.0.462.

All other icons are looking very nice.

A picture of the icon (second icon from the right) is in the attachment.

And you’re right: I have WINDOWS 2000 Prof., too! ???

Is it a bug and can we have the hope, that the bug will be fixed in a programm-update?

Vlk,

How about doing like MSE, make the old blue “a” ball green and when avast! detects something wrong have it turn red.

The orange ball sticks out like a sore thumb.

only waiting ,I think so!

Windows 2000 was cool some years ago but not now

The problem is that Windows 2000 can only render tray icons in 16 color depth.
That’s why it looks terrible.

Starting with XP, the tray icons have any number of colors.

I agree with the op. I hid the orange agitator but now it bugs me that I cannot see it working. Blue was perfectly fine. Not that I’m not pleased with the program because even on my two stroke xp engine, it has done well.

Can the Windows 2000 user hope, that this will be fix in a programm-update?

Perhaps you might consider an upgrade. I think Win 2000 has seen its day.

@ twl845

I think you mean Win 2000 has seen its decade. ;D

Helpful statements, thanks guys! :-*

I don’t think, that it is “such a big job” for avast! to fix the bug… :o
