Hi all, please welcome the newest version of Avast AV: 20.10 (20.10.2442)
Here’s what’s officially new:
Expanded Password Protection - We now protect your passwords in the beta versions of browsers, too. (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and AVG Secure Browser - Premium Security Only)
Rescue Disk improvements - Windows 7 users can celebrate knowing this feature works for them again, and we’ve improved its performance and made sure it properly cleans up related .DLLs for all users
Bug stomping - Just the usual bug fixes that keep your antivirus going strong
Here are some examples of the bugs we stomped:
Restart PC dialogue no longer ignores the “Next century” reminder. (Just wait and see…)
Fixed driver incompatibility with HVCI (AV installation now works when Windows Core Integrity memory isolation is on)
Cleaned our code to remove obsolete pre-alpha and legacy licensing components
UI now opens properly on scan results after an Explorer scan finishes (was not behaving properly with UI minimized)
Fixed a crash that happened in log viewer when logs were too large
Improved service stability by properly terminating some thread-hooks
We now allow removing services without exe/dll file (fileless service)
Got rid of unnecessary reboot required after specific types of detections
…and loads of others
How to install:
Update from your existing Avast version via Settings → Update → Update program
Or you can download and install files: Online installers (recommended):
No unwanted surprises. The update went smoothly. As the man who jumped off the Empire State Building was heard to say as he passed the 70th floor, “So far, so good”. I keep a couple of spare Windows 10 systems in reserve to do the preliminary update installations so that we can be fairly confident that the reliability of systems we rely on are not going to be compromised.
Anyway, nice job Avast and thanks. In spite of the occasional hiccup, it’s the one antimalware system that I truly feel I can rely on, having used it since version 4. Considering the infinite variations in Windows platforms (each individual one unique, many less than perfectly managed by users and with different Windows versions that Avast must necessarily be targeted at and become embedded in), it’s remarkable how trouble free Avast is.
With these new update, many programs are being marked as “infected with Win32-Renamer-F” and moved to the Virus Chest - not allowing me to run them. This never happened before. There’s nothing suspicious or wrong with these .exe programs, and there’s no addition to the original name of the files.
Good day.
I don’t know what you thought about it, but avast blocks google chrome tightly, it’s impossible to go online.
At the same time, there are no viruses and there were no, everything was scanned by other antiviruses, the browser was installed from scratch.
When disabled, avast google chrome works fine like other browsers
I have an issue with this update - or better said my uncle has, and I’m solving it now (as an IT person).
Windows 10 - unknown release number.
Avast - unknown version, but updated occured Dec 14th 2020 (implies version 20.10).
The system is in a “automatic repair” loop.
The windows built in recovery tools can help me identify the issue.
The files aswArDisk.sys, asbidsh.sys, aswbuniv.sys, aswElam.sys, aswRvrt.sys and aswVmm.sys are all corrupted (all files in windows\system32\drivers)
The files have a timestamp of Dec 14th 10:39 am, last time when the system still worked.
None of the boot options (safe mode, disable anti-malware, …) work, always the same automatic repair loop.
If I move the affected files, I get a BSOD with stop code “Inaccessible Boot Device”.
I can access the data via the recovery utilities, but there are also important applications with settings which would be lost with a clean install of windows.
Is there ANY way of recovering the system?
Last week I got Avast antivirus from EMUCoupon.com. I am Brisbanite and doing my studies right now. Avast is a very expensive antivirus so that’s why I bought this with the use of discount code:-. But I faced a problem ever since I install Avast. I received different types of errors when I am going to start one of my favorite games and these games I was playing for 3.5 years. Can you please suggest to me what can I do otherwise I will go to delete it? :-[
