You might be able to go back to a previous version with system restore, though I can’t guarantee that. At the very least, a system restore should put your registry back to what it was.
Beyond that, you can see if anyone has a 23.4 offline install file, and you can work out in PMs to have it sent to you, and then you can uninstall 23.5 and install 23.4. The offline install files are usually fairly large (>600 MB), so you won’t be able to just have it emailed to you, they’ll need to use a website like Yousendit (if that’s even still a thing) or similar.
Worst case you can also just uninstall Avast, roll with Microsoft Defender for a bit (assuming you’re on Windows 10 or later), then install Avast again whenever they fix the issue.
Hello, fix of the issue with the repeated SafePrice plugin offer was just released. Once you have version 23.5.8195.786 the issue should be gone. PC restart is needed. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this bug.
Ive been holding off from updating due to this issue.
As jan mentioned a fix was released i risked the update just now 10am uk time.
even though it still showed as 783 in the update once updated it loaded 786 as mentioned above and no sign of an addon so thank you for the update Jan
How is it that people seem to be able to download the 23.5 version, meanwhile my software version seem to be stuck in 23.4.
Refer to the image below.
Even after I press the update button, I am told that my version is up to date. I wonder if this has something to do with my problem of being unable to update my virus definition.

My subscription is Avast Ultimate, the other softwares that is included in my subscription seems to work fine, except for Avast Security Premium. Is there a specific installation files that I need to download or something? Why isn’t my software updating automatically?
I would appreciate help with this issue as it has been bothering me for the past few days.
I have figured out what was wrong. I’m writing this here in case anyone else might have a similar problem then mine.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Avast, and the update issue still persist. Luckily, if I try to uninstall or update using “apps menu” in the Windows system settings, it gives me an error log. From the error log I concluded that the reason my Avast wasn’t updating is because of connection issues, specifically timeout issues from IPv4 and IPv6. I’m no network expert, but I know that these can be related to DNS settings in windows network settings.
About a week ago, the DNS provided by my ISP was giving me connection problems, so I changed the DNS to Google DNS. (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and resolved my connection problems. For some reason though, the Avast software wouldn’t allow me to update with the Google DNS. I switched it back to my default ISP DNS, and the software updated itself, along with the Virus Definitions.
So that resolved it.
I do have a question though, and this is more aimed at people from AVAST (whom I hope is looking at the forums) :
Is there any particular reason why using Google DNS would prevent me from updating my AVAST software? I also tried some other reliable public DNS, like Open DNS, and Cloudflare, and it seems that AVAST won’t let me update if I use those either. I’m genuinely curious because other softwares I installed had no problem updating using the Google DNS, or the other I mentioned.
When will the support for Windows 11’s new right-click menu be available? When right-clicking on a file now, more options are needed to find the option to use Avast to scan.
That has nothing to do with Avast but is a feature in Windows 11. You need to either select show more options
or, you can depress the shift key while using the right mouse key to select the file you want Avast to scan, and you’ll see that option when you select the file in that manner. (I programmed that shift and right mouse key selection into my keyboard which has some programmable keys.)
Hello, thanks for the response.
I looked at the list of files and data collected by the app, and it seems like a pretty exhaustive list of things, some of which I’m not comfortable sharing. As a general rule, I try to limit the kind of information that installed software can obtain from my devices and that gets sent to developers. Is there a way for me to review the information that is actually collected (in the form of a file I can read) before it gets sent?
Yes, that was how the last issue was fixed, I think it is the uupdate function that checks every 4 hours or when a restart occurs (effectively resets this 4 hour schedule). That said I think this was previously called emupdate and was a scheduled task.
