Hi everyone,

new beta version 17.7.2313 (build 17.7.3652.0) is released.

What’s new:

  • New Webcam shield that checks which apps are trying to turn on your webcam

3 modes:
[list]- Smart mode (default) - we allow trusted apps and ask to grant access for unknown apps

  • Strict mode - we always ask user if the app should access webcam or not
  • No mercy mode - we always block the access to webcam so your webcam can’t be turned on
  • New Virus Chest - it’s now part of main UI, more easily accessible via main navigation
  • Improved low level optimizations for AMD Ryzen CPUs

Known issues:

  • Webcam

  • It is not possible to disable WebCam shield

  • There are no notifications in WebCam shield in No mercy mode

  • WebCam shield detection dialogues are not displayed on top in case some metro application is detected

  • Help for WebCam shield is not localized

Which editions is the Webcam Shield available in?

It’s Avast Premier only.

I guess I will have to stick (no pun intended) to a sticky label on my win10 laptop, no camera on my desktop :wink:

I have to say I’m surprised at a new feature being added during the current beta, especially when there are known issues.

BTW I already got new Virus Chest a few days ago…

Just some info: I am on 17.6.2310 and the issue with Behavior Shield not enabling on XP seems to have gone away.
Not sure when, but it has been fine for well over a week or so now. Maybe they did a micro update during the vps updates.
Time will tell.

Have the issue that was present in the old version of the chest resolved, scan a file within the chest didn’t appear to work ?

And how to secure your build in microphone ( the Hackers way ;D ) :

Take a pair of earbuds that has a microphone included, cut off the 3.5mm audio jack and plug it into your device.
That simply disables the device build-in microphone.

New Virus Chest has no ability to scan files inside it. :-X

I would have thought they would have fixed the bugs in the old virus chest before releasing the new virus chest.

I believe they used the excuse that the old problems weren’t going to get fixed as they were releasing a new virus chest interface.
