there is a new beta version ready - 22.11.6039 (build 22.11.7684).
What was fixed
Fixed issue when UI with scan results was displayed in the foreground even when other full screen app was running.
Fixed crash when the AV tried to load damaged license file.
RC4 encryption is still blocked and/or damaged by this version. I’m using PaleMoon to access a LAN device that only understands RC4. I’ve also seen where following a scan by Network Inspector the PC’s DNS functionality is lost. Disabling then re-enabling Avast appears to fix it. Unfortunately this doesn’t appear to be repeatable.
thanks for the report. Please see the response from the 22.9 beta thread:
Regarding the PaleMoon browser. We are investigating this (RC4) issue. We increased the scanning level on this browser recently and just for Beta builds. As a workaround you can switch to the production version where AV should not affect TLS settings of this browser.
Thanks for the reply HK! Lack of RC4 isn’t a big problem (only PaleMoon seems to support it with a prefs.js change in a special profile). For the rare times I need to access the device with only RC4 I simply disable Avast for the short session.
I was using this beta for a few days until Avast main page can’t open. Then I got message saying Hardened Mode blocked an Avast file and asked me to add to Exclusions. I did but Avast still can’t open. Restarting the PC didn’t help.
I had to uninstall and reinstall this beta. I then unchecked Hardened Mode and added all the Avast program folders to Exceptions. The files I was asked to add to Exclusions were not in the list. It is ironic that Hardened Mode don’t recognize Avast’s own files.
This is a problem with both Hardened Mode and UI. Why can’t you use a UI that uses no animation (except system tray icon), use less CPU and RAM?
Hello ccm582, thank you very much for the report. Could you please share the screenshot of detection or the detection ID or at least the exact name of the file blocked by Hardened Mode so I can report it to our threat lab? Thanks a lot.
When Avast hung, the main page is trying to open. Much later, a small pop-up appeared next to system tray icon which is not the usual threat pop-up. It is transparent with the words hard to read. I remember it said that Hardened Mode blocked an Avast file (no ID) and told me to add to ‘Exclusions’. When I did, the pop-up disappeared but nothing was added to Exceptions. Avast still can’t open.
After I uninstalled and reinstalled Avast, and after I did what I described earlier, Avast didn’t hang and the pop-up never appeared again. I don’t remember the file name. I should have taken a screenshot then. As I don’t want to experience it again, I don’t want to go back to Hardened Mode or remove Avast folders from Exceptions. Sorry. I will remember to take screenshot if anything like this happens again.
