New browser version 79.0

Hello everyone,

We’re pleased to announce that we have released a new stable version of Avast Secure Browser (ASB) - version 79.0.3060.80 for 32bit and version 79.0.3062.80 for 64bit OSes. This contains important security fixes and adds support for importing from the new Chromium-based Edge Browser.

Additionally, we have added some additional performance configuration options which provide even more control over when the browser suspends tabs. You can find this in the settings page under Performance.

You should get this new version automatically via update. Please be patient, the delivery of the update is gradual.

We hope you enjoy the changes we’ve made, and as always we would love to hear your feedback.

A download link would be nice. Thanks
Downloading it from the website results in all kinds of errors. this is just one of them.

It eventually fails.

Certainly, a specific download link would be good.

Regarding to the problem with error message, I am trying to reproduce it now.

Is there no direct download link?

I’m unable to install the browser.

Something for the devs to check/answer. ASB V79 is running smooth here.

Important thing to clarify.

The fact that if you uninstall previous version and use web installer to install it again will force installing the latest. That’s true.

However it’s not because the installer from web is the latest version. It is online installer and it does not know what version is the latest. It sends request to server and server responds the right browser installation package.

That’s why there are no direct links for “new” versions. it’s very likely that next version of browser will be installed by the same version of online installer.

None of this changes the fact that the download results in a failed install,

I uninstalled the browser followed that by using the Secure Browser removal tool
and finished it running the .bat file that was supposed to remove any leftovers.
I then rebooted the system and followed it by installing the browser from the download link.

Hi Ondrej, I already submitted my feedback a while ago to Sander (via Slack), but I’ll repost one relevant point here…

As the stub installer doesn’t always work as expected, how about a full installer (32/64) for the experts…!?

Hi, This file webio.dll is a Windows DLL.

I found several forum threads on the internet. Example: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/constantly-receiving-cwindowssystem32webiodll/3d9a447a-b868-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5

I cannot reproduce it with Avast AV Premium 19.8 (official) + Browser 79.0.3062.80 on Win 10 64bit (19H2 - 1909).

I recommend checking solution online and try tips that people give. Also, please try to update or disable AV or uninstall it. Also, check for Windows Updates and restart machine.

Hi Asyn, I am sorry, I cannot help with this. Offline installation is not easy to develop for our product and is not on our road-map for upcoming months.

Too bad, but thanks for the straight answer.

Thanks for the precise information Ondrejz. Appreciated
