New bug.

I installed the new version of Avast that it alerted me about, and restarted my computer. I got an error upon returning to Windows that says:

ashDisp.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point DSA_FileVerify could not be located in the dynamic link library aswCmnS.dll.

http://beatme101.com/images/ss/DSA_FileVerify.jpg

I am amazed that my search didn’t turn up anything, since I didn’t do anything special to get this error and thus everyone else should have experienced it too.

It also seems that I do not have an Avast icon in the system tray, and the only Avast program I see in the Task Manager is aswUpdSv.exe.

Do you have Spyware Doctor installed?

I have received the same error. It first appears when restarting the operating system, but also appears when I open the AVAST program from the desktop shortcut. (I also don’t have the icon in the system tray anymore). I am using Spyware Doctor.

I have same error after update on husbands laptop
Tried to repair with no luck and uninstalled and reinstalled but can’t do that either.
Help Please.
Charleen

Nope. Never heard that name before, I wouldn’t use such an obscure anti-spyware program. Sounds like it’s one of those ones that are in fact spyware themselves. I use Ad-Aware, Spybot: Search and Destroy, and Spywareblaster. I also have an ad blocker I made myself that consists entirely of a custom HOSTS file.

beatme, could you please also post the last section of the setup.log file (avast\setup\setup.log).

BTW did you try “repair of avast installation”? Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs → avast antivirus → Change/Remove → Repair.

Thanks
Vlk

My husband has spyware doctor on his computer

I tried repairing the install–I get the same error on reboot.

Here’s my setup log file for today.

Wow. There’s alot of stuff in there from today. Here’s the last one:

'Kay, I’ll do the repair thing. I’ll reply (or edit if there are no replies) when I finish.

Ok --nevermind,
I disabled the spyware doctor “on guard protection” and repaired the Avast install. It seems to work now.
Thanks
Marguerite

beatme, can you please search the whole setup.log for the following string: code:0x00000020

Thanks
Vlk

It’s fixed now, that repair fixed it.

Hmm… No occurrences. And that log seems to span back to “05.03.2006”, although it’s hard to decide when that was since some companies put months before days.

Vlk, just trying to learn, what does this error code means? Thanks.

Disabled spyware doctor and reinstalled Avast
works fine.
thanks

My guess this is a windows error and is “The system cannot find the device specified.”

And what does this mean? A Spyware Doctor driver? Which is the ‘device’ here?

Since the error image related to ashDisp I would have thought it couldn’t find an avast device, whether this was caused by Spyware Doctor, I have no idea. I guess we will have to wait for Vlk to get back to us.

I installed Spyware doctor and don’t have this problem

0x00000020 = 32 = sharing violation.

However, it’s not really important what it actually stands for, the important point here is that Spyware Doctor contains a bug that prevents avast from installing/repairing correctly, and the characteristic manifestation of this bug is the 0x00000020 error code in the setup log.

HTH,
Vlk
