New build of ADNM and managed clients released

Hi guys,

just wanted to say that there’s a new ADNM / avast managed client update available on our servers. ADNM contains lots of fixes and the managed client as now on a par with avast 4.6 Professional (e.g. contains WebShield, NNTP scanner and other enhancements).

Thanks
Vlk

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

And now, I’m just waiting for a bunch of new bug reports… :-[ ;D

Hi,

Will the ADNM Console and clients automatically update or do I need to download and install the new version?

I’m also about 30 days into the 60 day trial version - do I just need to purchase enough professional licences for each desktop? If so how to I enter the serial/activation codes?

The update procedure is described in detail in the Administrator’s Guide.

Basically, you can update via Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs → avast Management Tools.

This is also described in the Admin guide. The clients lease the license info from the management server; of course, you don’t have to manually distribute serial keys to all machines on the network

HTH,
Vlk

Vlk, When will the new version (4.6.311) be available? My system shows my current version at 4.6.280 and when I click to update it tells me there is no new version available.

Well it is available… (it should be…)
Maybe the mirror isn’t mirroring correctly?

Try to run it manually, from \mirror\mirror.exe

Thanks
Vlk

I ran the mirror.exe file and it appeared to download and install quite a few files but the after starting the Avast Mgmt service it still shows as version 4.6.280. Any ideas?

Well, what do you mean by “it shows”?
Did you update it? (Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs → Avast MAnagement Tools)

Maybe you somehow misunderstood the mirror concept. The mirror simply holds a local copy of the contents of our Internet servers. Until you start an update, though, no version change takes place in any installed products (avast managed server or avast netclient).

Or maybe I misunderstood you?

When I open the console and choose Help, About it says Build: Feb2005 (4.6.280). I have run the mirror and then went to Add/Remove and chose Avast Management. I picked update option and when I click next it says “No packages for update have been found. Your system is already up to date.” I am attaching the mirror.log that shows the entries pertaining to the mirror to see if this helps. Any thoughts on why I am not updating? I am running the 60 day trial but I have 3 weeks left on it.

The log looks OK… Could you also post the contents of the mirror\mirror folder?
Something like

dir > mirrordir.txt

and post mirrordir.txt.

Thanks
Vlk

Vlk, I do not have a mirrordir.txt, however I do have a mirror.def and I am attaching that file. If that doesn’t help let me know what else to do. Thanks.

This is really very weird because the mirror.def is OK (it’s the latest version, and it has the new ADNM / neclient packages listed).

Maybe you ARE using the latest version but the updater just didn’t somehow update the version number?!
What if you go again to the Add/Remove programs applet, and select Update → Check for Updates. What does it show in the “Latest version available” section?

Thanks
Vlk

Here is a screen shot when I click on the update.

That’s so odd! :-\

Could you also post the file \setup\setup.log?

Sorry for the trouble
Vlk

Here is the log. Thanks for all the help.

OK, that’s better! ;D
Now it makes sense.

Your \setup\servers.def file still contains the definition of the BETA servers (you were probably using the beta version in the past, weren’t you).

The fix is to replace the contents of the file with the official one: http://www.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def

Thanks!
