new computer avast modules wont load and i am in passive mode

Installed avast free when i rebooted it started windows defender and avast is in passive mode i cant turn off so i cant turn on the modules. when i restart pc windows defender is back on how do i disable it and use avast free this is on windows 10 pc.

did a repair and it seems to be working now on old pc i had it set to run a smart scan once a week can i still schedule that?

fixed it finally had to get windows defender to stop starting.

Windows Defender automatically turns itself off any time you install another AV.
