New Computer

My new computer will be here soon and I want to know how to install Avast Home (the free version) Edition on my new computer BEFORE connecting to the internet for the first time. My current registration number is good until 1 November 2009. Thanks…

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you install on the new system.

If the new system is to be used for home and non-commercial use, then you can use the same key you received in the email. There is no rush as you would have 60 60 days unrestricted use on the new installation, using the demo key that comes with it.

and be aware of preinstalled antivirus software!

norton can be a pig to remove

Agree re pre-installed AV, but can apply to other pre-installed stuff, too.
Might be worth your time to take a look at the PC Decrapifier. http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/home
What you remove (and how) is largely down to user preference. And your preferences will depend on your experience.
There are a lot of folk here who probably have a lot of good ideas regarding how they would like a new computer set up.
I even have some of my own. ;D

Hi…

Along with Tarq’s suggestion, there is also the Norton Removal Tool if, indeed, you have NAV preinstalled on your system…

Hope you enjoy your new computer.

May God Bless you!

The following link will help you with both,
Installing avast! and removing most pre-install anti-virus programs.

Hope that helps.

As well as running the un-install application and a reboot you may want to start regedit then do a Find on Norton then delete the item then Find ( F3 ) again until there are no more entries to delete then go back to the top of the registry and repeat the process for Symantec.

Make sure you have a good System Restore point before starting this or a complete registry backup with ERUNT.
