Some claim that its a new version of Petya…The attacks hit several countries and spread out.
Is Avast aware of this?

Ofcourse avast knows about it and likely even before the press did.

Is there any chance that we -the free Avast users- may be covered against it or atleast find and trace of it by ussing scans or we must buy the premium version ONLY?

Avast is detecting this ransomware just fine from my test.So all users even free of course are protected.

FYI,VT is outdated on Avast detection.

Avast does not detect in the scan, but when it tries to run the file it detects it as malware. Why does this occur?

I wrote a analysis of the malware on MT if anyone is interested::

I am not sure what the OP means but avast detects the threat even on demand. It’s the normal malware-gen detection (auto-detected by AI I assume)

Not very helpful posting a link to a site where you have to login in order to read the post.

India is hit pretty bad:

"The leading cyber-security firm Avast has said that it had seen 75,000 cases of ransomware and its variants around the globe at last count. " 8)

@Eddy Can you suggest a better place for me to post a analysis?

Sure, this webboard in the viruses and worms forum
or any other place where people don’t have to become a member in order to see it.

Ofcourse avast knows …, like some sort of God???

No, because they are doing their job.

Show me a link from any antivirus software which says that [that specific antivirus] will not protect you against the latest ransomware…

And the other developers are sleeping…

Show me a link from any antivirus software which says that [that specific antivirus] will not protect you against the latest ransomware...
And i will show you a honest politician ;D

I might actually post it in the forum then.
