I Have a Dell Xps 8690 and was transfing some old programs from old pc. One did not go well so restored with Acronis cyber home and it went well but avast firewall all my applications setting all greyed out with \volume not found. Had to delete all the app firewall settings i have ask enable and some applications come up wanting access again, some have internet without asking. not listed in firewall list did restoring change something and would reinstalling avast fix it or did restoring change something that nolonger matches previous system. I chatted with Acronis and they said ask avast so iam here. Thank You
I haven’t used Acronis, so I can’t speak from personal experience and I don’t know what would have been included in the last Acronis save you did.
So there is a possibility it could have set Avast back to a point where the firewall settings were different. So a possibility of loss of some of those firewall settings.
"would reinstalling avast fix it or did restoring change something that no longer matches previous system."
There is a strong possibility that by reinstalling Avast that you would lose all those existing settings (if any remained) after the Acronis restore. You would also lose other settings unrelated to the firewall also.
You could first try Backing up your existing settings (that remain after the Acronis restore) - Avast UI > Menu > General > Troubleshooting > (scroll down to) Backup your Avast settings. Make a note of the file name given and the location you saved them. See attached screenshot, click to expand.
When you reinstall Avast you can go down that route again, but this time choosing Restore Settings.
This would essentially take you to the point in time that you are now if you do nothing other than manually recreate your previous firewall settings.
I uninstalled Avast and reinstalled it and some apps ask for permissions and some like dell system programs don’t ask for connection. when i first installed avast before the restore. I think the restore changed something to do with the original drive setting changed but pc still runs. the error i was seeing was the applications were listed with something like ?\volume then some numbers and then file location. I think the drive changed some volume code and avast noticed this as being another system not the one it was installed on. So far must applications are asking for permission but some windows Files that originally ask have not popped up yet. I will wait and see if they pop up for permission. Thank You.
You’re welcome.
In a way a clean start might not be a bad thing, unless you had lots of personalised Avast settings and or passwords, etc. that you/avast would have to build up again.
