New DNS changer?

“According to the FBI, beginning in 2007, the cyber ring used a class of malware called DNSChanger – DNS stands for Domain Name System – to infect approximately 4 million computers in more than 100 countries.”

Just heard about this today on Lamestream news network. Now why would that be if they’ve known about it since '07?
I’m just wondering because, if this thing is genuine and it’s been kept under wraps until the last minute, will Avast pick it up in a scan?
Because, now this is very interesting, they’re asking everyone to hook up with an FBI site to have their computer scanned for this DNS changer.
Now, I don’t know about any of y’all but I’m not real anxious to offer up remote access to the FBI in these times. Sounds like an easy opportunity to install a permanent monitoring system on millions of civilian and business computers all over the country.
Remember, a vampire can’t come into your house unless you give it permission. Enter freely and of your own will.
Anyway, does anyone know if Avast has already addressed this particular malware or would the fact that the FBI has been hiding it have kept it from the security companies that provide antivirus and malware protection?

Dealing with the DNSChanger Worm
http://www.opendns.com/dns-changer

Sorry Pondus.

I did look around and found some threads that were DNSchanger related but none seemed to correspond with this information just released today.

This topic can be closed. I’ve been checking around the internet since I posted it and it doesn’t look like it will be an issue. I checked my DNS servers against a list of known malicious Rove DNS settings and found no matches.

Thanks for your quick reply.
