Avast is keeping me from getting online. It picks up new dot net Win 32 Adware-gen at startup. I can only get online by turning off avast and rebooting network settings. This seems to be coming form my Bell South network settings. SHould I block avast from finding it and if so HOW?
New Dot Net should be removed, however it can take your internet connection with it.
Lost Internet Connection - To recover you internet connection, try downloading and running WinsockXPfix: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

No needs to do all of this. For XP SP2, try - netsh winsock reset - this is enough to fix the issue
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it. These may be able to remove newdotnet more graciously but you may have to recover the failed internet connection as above, so it would be wise to download WinsockXPfix first.
