New feature testing: Email Guardian (21.10.2498)

Hello all,

Feature Overview

  • Be warned of malicious emails and phishing scams when checking your hotmail, outlook, msn or live email from any web browser, on any device!

  • Email Guardian extends your current Mail Shield protection from email apps on your PC to your online mailbox. This includes It’s like having Avast installed directly in Outlook in the cloud.

  • Click Email Guardian from your Security menu to set it up. Then check your emails like normal. There’s no need to change your habits, because Email Guardian works automatically.

Also, please note that Email Guardian does not collect or store any of your emails. If it detects a malicious email, it only flags it for you within your Outlook account. It’s up to you to decide what to do with the email after that.

If anyone has feedback or questions, please post in this topic.

Thanks!

Any plans for a similar service for those of us using
On-line email services like Gmail?

Hi Bob, yes - see: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=308465.msg1665524#msg1665524

Is this just limited to POP3 and IMAP for Outlook?

Is there any support for Microsoft Exchange via Outlook?

Thanks.

Hi Bob. Thanks for the question. Yes we plan to expand our services to gmail and a number of other service providers. Please note that this is not a client based solution for outlook. Rather, it is a cloud based solution that protects your @hotmail or @outlook mailboxes regardless of how you are interfaced to those emails- whether it’s through the outlook client, or any webmail client. I edited the initial topic post to make this a little more clear.

We provide cloud based protection for @hotmail, @outlook, @live and @msn emails. We later plan to introduce support for IMAP as well as other major email providers such as @gmail.

Will this also be available for those using Avast One? Thanks

It may be in the future, but for now we are only testing it in Windows AV Beta builds.

I read this thread but why need Email Guardian? Doesn’t Web Shield do the job? Doesn’t it also scan malware and phishing sites on web mail sites?

I second this question.

What’s the big difference for online mail services, between the Web Shield and the Email Guardian?

I always thought that the Web Shield fully protects me while using a web browser, regardless of the site I’m on.

If it’s just there to increase the amount of “shields”… I’d think that quantity isn’t better than quality.

I believe the point in Email Guardian is, you don’t need to have Avast installed on the device except for one.

Read following:

I’m still not sure how this can be done, maybe Avast made contracts with those email providers to scan their e-mail in real time?
