New Hardware Detection - Standard Shield

I have the Avast 4.6 Home Edition. Everytime I boot up my computer, it detects a new hardware (Avast Standard Shield). What do I do to stop this?

Which OS do you have? XP?

Yes, XP.

I vaguely remember a thread on this subject before SEARCHING…

Try this

It doesn’t seem to answer any questions. In fact, the person asking the question got so frustrated that he just got rid of Avast…help :frowning:

Right lets do some investigating:

When did this first appear, after an avast update or after installing new hardware/software

Have you tried an uninstal/reinstall of avast

Have you tried following through on the new hardware wizard to see what happens

Have you updated any drivers recently

I have done nothing new. I already did uninstall/reinstall…same problem. I can’t follow the hardware wizard along because it doesn’t have a disk or anywhere to draw the infomration from. I tried.

Everytime I boot up my computer, it detects a new hardware (Avast Standard Shield)
What exactly do you mean? Avast has nothing to do with hardware. What is saying "new hardware detected"? And what has according to you the Avast Standard Shield to do with it? Is there a excalmation (!) mark in device manager?

I don’t know why it does that…that’s the problem. I know there isn’t any new hardware.

Lets try this then:

Go to Control Panel - Administrative tools - services.

Select each of the 4 avast services and set to disabled.

Reboot

Does the hardware wizard reappear if yes then it is not an avast problem but a conflict with another driver.

Go to Control Panel - Administrative tools - services

Select each of the 4 avast services and set to automatic and start

Does the hardware wizard reappear

If no then reboot

Does the hardware wizard reappear

Avast has NOTHING to do with hardware.

Missy, please answer the questions in my previous post.

It happens even with the four Avast things shut off. What other driver? It says Avast Standard Shield.

Make a screenshot of the message and post it here. Let us have a look.

This would suggest that it is not avast, maybe a corruption in the registry ?
