New HP Notebook - how to disinstall preloaded Norton Internet Security

New HP Notebook (Windows 7) - I need to know exact steps to disinstall preloaded Norton Internet Security 18.0.1.37, in order to be then able to download and install Avast 7 Free with no problems, as I had with another similar notebook a few days ago.

Norton is present but not activated.

Thanks a lot

Download and save the avast version that you want first and the Norton removal tool - from the link that pondus provided then uninstall Norton from programs and features, once completed run the Norton tool and reboot.
You can then run a search for additional leftovers under the names of ( Norton and Symantec ) and delet when found.

Install the saved copy of avast

Are you sure NIS is already installed?
Do you find an entry for it in Programs and features?

On my new HP Notebook which was announced to come preloaded with NIS, only the setup program was present.
I found it in the folder C:/swsetup.
It was a couple of places in that folder but nothing was installed, only a shortcut to the setup.
I was happy to get rid of NIS in a couple of clicks.

Yes It Was, but with excellent instructions I got here I disinstalled all and reinstalled Avast Free in perfect way… thanks to all

Your welcome

The Norton Removal Tool from Symantec should go through the system and
uninstall all Norton/symantec programs on the computer. It does work great
and a restart is required when says completed to remove any left over files.
