I have been using AVG 7.5 Free edition on my Win XP (SP2) machine. AVG is going to version 8 and I have read multiple complaints - installation of toolbars as default, program shows error state if certain (non-essential) components are turned off, huge resource usage, etc. All in all the death (for me!) of a good program. However, my questions:
Prior to installing Avast! Home, can I uninstall AVG 7.5 using it’s native uninstaller or is there a more thorough uninstall method?
I also run Spyware Terminator real time and from time to time scan with: SuperAntispyware, Spybot, A Squared Free - are their any known conflicts with Avast! Home?
Thanks!
You just not only ‘can’ but you ‘should’.
I’m not aware of a special tool to uninstall AVG. There will be remains, but, generally, the Add/Remove from Control Panel is enough.
No, there isn’t such conflicts. Just my personal experiences:
- SpywareTerminator will take resources and won’t increase avast detection that much. Take care about ClamWin integration because, possibly, it can conflict with avast.
- SuperAntispyware is a very good tool. I use it only on-demand.
- Spybot is an immunization tool, won’t conflict with avast.
- a-squared gave me that much false positives and fail to restore registry miserably to me once. I gave up.
Oh, welcome to forums. I’m an ex-AVG user too

- I find that ST runs pretty “light” and I don’t use ClamWin.
- I also use SA only on demand.
- I don’t use Spybot’s immunization or real time (Teatimer) protection - only run Spybot on demand. (I have run Spyware Blaster, however.)
- Have had a couple false positives that were easy to spot but no disasters. Uses lots of resources to scan and takes a long time, though.
Thank for the reply - I’ll uninstall using AVG’s uninstaller and use Avast! (Been using Avast! on my Vista side - dual boot - and not had any problems.)
Welcome to avast forums.
