New Install - Several Questions

New install of Home Edition and have questions:

  1. What does Web Shield do? Looks like it uses 28 +/- MB of RAM (ashWebSv.exe)
  2. I use Thunderbird as an email client for several POP3 accounts - does the Internet Mail provider scan incoming messages? Outgoing?
  3. I never use Outlook - do I need the Outlook/Exchange provider?
  4. I never use instant messaging - do I need the Instant Messaging provider?

Thanks.

Scans the http (Internet) traffic and avoid any infected file to be even saved in your computer.
It acts ‘before’ the resident (Standard Shield).

Both are protected if they do NOT use SSL connections (like Gmail, for instance).

No, you can disable it.

No, you can disable it, or even uninstall it.

Thanks.
