I was recently forced to perform a full reinstall of a computer due to it becoming unbootable. I have successfully reinstalled a clean installation of windows 10. When I try to install Avast free edition the progress bar shows it’s installing, but when it reaches the end of the bar the computer freezes. When I say freezes I mean everything, even the mouse becomes stuck at whatever position it was in before the freeze. The only way to “fix” it is to restart the computer. I am at a loss to explain why this is happening. Any help is appreciated. I have already attempted a second clean install, and checked the ssd for errors. I have also tried running sfc.exe and dism. Neither of those options returned anything wrong. I would hate to move to a different anitvirus, but I need to get their computer back up.
when you say reinstall, do you mean a factory reinstall ?
If so is there a preinstalled AV on it?
No pre-installed anti-virus. The version of windows I’ve reinstalled is a version from microsoft’s techbench, for clean installs and repairs with dism. The computer works fine otherwise. Other programs install fine, it just seems to be avast’s installation.
see instructions here >> https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
scroll down to second picture > Farbar Recovery Scan Tool < run it as instructed and attach the two logs
See below the box you write in > Attachments and other options
Then a expert will have a look at the diagnostic logs tomorrow
Files are attached.
After installing Windows, did you check device manager for errors/problems ?
It can be there is a problem with drivers.
ssd > Did you set the bios to support legacy boot ?
I wonder what is causing thist behavior because I’ve had exactly the same issue after clean installation on my desktop pc back in december 2015 (when I definitely decided to switch to another AV)… Drivers wasn’t the cause. It seems like it was happened when Avast tried to disable Defender.
It may be worth turning off windows defender prior to installing Avast
I’ve already got windows defender disabled.
What other programmes were installed prior to Avast going on
@ Rasengan4774,
Since this isn’t your topic, I suggest you start your own.
What? Is this not the right forum for technical help?
Firefox and Macrium Reflect
OK the commonality there is macrium… Uninstall that and then install Avast, does that help
My apologies, it was malone.m who had jumped in. :-[

Did a second clean install, and attempted to install avast right after initial windows update for drivers. It froze the system at 99%/100% installation.
OK I would guess it is one of your system drivers however, as to which one I have no idea
I am running 10 with no problems at all
