New Malware or hoax

I have recieved the following note but cannot find anything about it. Is it true or not - It has a mention that AVAST are the only ones to provide a fix!

Details as follows:

Dear Valued Client,

This email is intended for your information and is not intended to panic anybody.

You may wish to make your support teams aware there is a new previously unknown worm on the loose. Some NHS sites have reportedly been effected and anti-virus vendors are already working to provide new updates to counter the malware.

This worm is previously unknown and currently Avast is the first and only security software vendor whom have released a fix. It has similarities to Conficker-A.worm but is not identical and has additional payload.

It will affect the following on both workstations and also Servers.

Server Service is stopping randomly.

RPC becomes unavailable because of that.

All the following services on Windows Server 2003 also stop

Workstation service

Windows Audio Service

Logical Disk manager

HID input service

Cryptographic Services

Computer Browser

Automatic updates Services

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

i don’t know, who’s the author of this text, but the Conficker worm should be well covered by Avast… my personal testing (at virustotal) leads to a result that not all antiviruses can say that…

Hi,

Hi smb7777777,

Isn’t it good to hear that avast is protecting against this worm, (while millions and millions of computers have been infected by the Conficker-a or Conficker-b worm. Well there is also a separate removal tool for it, to be downloaded here: ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/beta/fsmrt.zip
