My ISP (Rogers in Canada) offered a free security package (AV, FW, etc) to all members. Since it was from Norton, I declined and selected Avast for my AV program. However Norton is getting the boot and Rogers is offering a complete package (free) (AV, FW, AS, parental control etc) from RadialPoint.
On my test computer (XP Pro), I have removed Avast and I am now testing the new package.
Well not selling retail could be good (as some corporate products are very good) and bad, bad (as in it wouldn’t be included in any comparative reviews), so you have very little information on its performance.
Personally I don’t line venturing into the unknown, with my security trousers round my ankles so to speak.
I am testing for two purposes. Firstly, since 95% of Canadian internet users belong to phone company or the cable TV company, and each offers this same package, it would be prudent for me to be aware of the package if a client insists upon using this software. Secondly, I always do my own test as personal experience never hurts.
In the Rogers forums, some members are speculating that the AV engine is based on Kaspersky. I have yet to be convinced. I will try and get some screen shots about Kaspersky.
This product is not McAfee. This product is for ISPs only to be released to the members. It is only WinXp and Vista. XP computers have reported no problems. Vista computers have reported some problems.
As it has only been released to my ISP for a few days. I will awaut further feedback.
