i have avast home edition, yesterday avast detected a virus which entered from the internet and it told to disconnect from the internet to stop further spreading. i did this then i ran a virus a scan and avast didn’t detect anything, why? the virus which i was infected by were Trojan horses/worms.
You wont find it Web Shield scan all http traffic (web pages and content) as they are downloaded before you see them, if something is detected it will alert you to abort the connection (click OK). That stops the infected content being downloade and stored on your computer.
You have nothing else to worry about.
I suggest a little time to browse the avast help file whilst your heart is normal.
i am also very new to this program(downloaded it yesterday). there are now MANY files in my “chest”–trojan, etc.–and i have NO idea what to do with them!!! should i delete them, leave them in the chest or what?? i am pretty 'net savvy but not to savvy when it comes to the working guts of it all!! thanks for your help-
hooksmee
Leave them there for a week or two and if there is no adverse effect on your computer you may delete them. Keep them in the chest for a while though in case they are false positives
Files are safe ‘into Chest’… don’t worry, follow Essexboy’s suggestion after all just to ‘save disk space’ 8)
Anyway, it’s always recommended to schedule a boot time scanning or a full avast! scanning (archives included) when a virus is found to be sure you’re clean after all 8)
Welcome to avast forums.
There are different sections of the chest, some contain backups of important system files. You should only delete files from the Infected section, after investigation and time as mentioned in previous posts.
