New Problem with Avast 5

I installed Avast free 5.1.889 some time ago and all was well. Since then I had to replace a failed power supply. Now, with each computer turn on, I see that Avast is not running properly and I have to click on “Fix it”. Avast current status then shows “Secured/Your system is fully protected.” but the task bar icon still shows a red square with a white X in it and the mouse-over message says “Avast antivirus: WARNING, your system is UNSECURED.” (which contradicts the program summary status. Which is right?

How can I get Avast running correctly again? Do I need to reinstall? If so, should I un-install it first?

Thanks for any help.

Try avast repair and reboot

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Thanks very much for the reply. I will do a repair and see if that clears up the problems. I’ll report back.

Thanks again.

Well, I did a repair as suggested but it still does the same - needs to be “fixed” after a turn on and the icon still implies that I am not protected.

Any other suggestions how to get Avast working as it should?
