Why Don’t Avast release there “silent program updates” once a month say “Patch Tuesday/Wednesday” therefore when peoples PC reboots if that month has Windows updates that require reboot, it could reboot for both System updates to take effect and Avast, though if something goes wrong, they’ll be like complaining then to, so really no win situation I suppose
yes we will respect your choice. For new installations and existing installations with the default value we will set new default - Automatic updates. If you don’t like automatic updates you can turn them off. This change is aimed at non-technical users who don’t want to bother with updating.
It shouldn’t be a case of turning off Automatic Updates, we still like to be notified ‘Ask when an update is available’, but take no action.
That said we have seen this setting overridden, usually on a release of a beta (when you are on the beta stream). We have also seen instances on the forums where program updates have occurred even when updates are set to Manual.
User set options on the Program Update shouldn’t be overridden.
Thank you Martin,
I agree that auto updates are the safest for those that never pay attention. I also like the choices made available
for those of us that want it our way.
Hope the following video makes this easy for everyone: https://youtu.be/YSPCI8ara8M
I’m not a beta tester but I’m very keen to ensure that I get to manually install (over the top) the next stable release. This is because I want to ensure (using the custom install) that NG isn’t installed, my Win 10 system probably meets the minimum requirements but I don’t think it’s up to it. My program update setting is never (just changed from ‘let me know’), does this mean that the automatic update won’t be installed or does the ‘preserve all settings’ commitment only apply to all other settings after the automatic update has taken place?
