When I open Chrome, another tab opens, covering the page I want to use, with an full page Avast advertisement. I have had this problem for more than a week. I have adjusted the settings in Chrome “use this page on start up” repeatedly, and it does not prevent the Avast tab opening in addition to my “home page”. Someone here said it is a Chrome problem, but it does not seem to be.
Any advice?

After you’ve made that change, close your browser and then restart Chrome.
Does that stop the avast page from loading ???

I have checked all three of those options, and also restarted my computer, and the new tab still opens with the Chrome tab. It is getting to be annoying. >:(
Any thing else I can try?

Bob, I am getting my home page, when I open Chrome. But, it is immediately masked with a new tab, showing an ad for Avast Online Security, or something like that. I can’t recall how to do screen shots, but not sure it would help, since I am getting what I want, and THEN SOME MORE that I don’t want. Thanks for your help. I am pretty sick of Avast right now.
One more little irritation…I have now uninstalled Avast from my computer, and the tab to the Avast advertisement still opens when I start Chrome. SMH
Uninstalled Chrome, and then installed it again. Got rid of the annoying tab with the Avast advertisement. Not going back to Avast. Using Microsoft Security Essentials.

Uh…Microsoft recommends using a third party anti-virus. And MSE really does no good when it comes to protection.

had this issue for ages on win 8.1 machine.
In the end went into chrome settings and under users selected delete. After this it all worked fine
