I bought a 32gb Nexus 7 and decided to give Avast mobile a whirl on it. So far it seems to be working but I have a few questions.
I decided not to keep the anti-theft module because it seemed like it was more for phones. I am not able to turn on the firewall because it says the device is not rooted (whatever that means). I also don’t understand how it scans email. Does it just scan the email app as the mail is coming in?
This is my first experience since 1999 with anything other than Windows so I’m a little lost. I bought a stylus and it has made a world of difference in using this thing.
Root is root
Joking: root is the superuser, admin power. To be root, you need to unlock your bootloader. At this point you lose your warranty.
There are a lot of apps that are for root only. But I suggest you keep your warranty and learn quite some things before even thinking on going root…
Yes. It scans the email in the default mail app afaik.
Rooting is a process allowing users of mobile phones, tablet PCs, and other devices running the Android operating system to attain privileged control (known as “root access”) within Android’s subsystem. Rooting is often performed with the goal of overcoming limitations that carriers and hardware manufacturers put on some devices, resulting in the ability to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized apps that require administrator-level permissions.
These root privileges are needed for a few options within avast! Mobile Security - like the Firewall.
Please consult http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooting_(Android_OS) for more information about rooted devices.
to find out how to root your device please perform an internet search:
root xda
you’ll find good step-by-step-rooting-guides within the XDA developers forum. be aware that you will loose your warranty if you root the device.
Email scan is not necessary - our app scans for all android related threats in all cases where harm could be done. since android phones can only be negatively influenced by executable files (.apk files) we scan all .apk’s upon
