New to Avast, a few general questions.

Hi folks.

I’ve recently moved to Avast Premier after growing increasingly dissatisfied with other AV solutions. I’m getting used to using it, but there are a few things I wanted to clarify in it’s operation. I’m hoping this forum might be able to help.

  1. How can I test Web Shield to confirm that it’s working for unencrypted and SSL connections?

  2. If the computer is off for a scheduled scan, will that scan be run at the next possible opportunity?

  3. Is it possible to schedule a scan to run on login, rather that at a specific time (for example, run a quick scan every time I login)?

  4. If I’ve set exceptions under components > security > file shield > exclusions will these directories still be scanned by scheduled and manually initiated scans?

Thanks All!

Note that all antivirus programs have realtime protection, meaning EVRYTHING that goes on in your computer when it is on is monitored in realtime, so frequent scanning is not needed

There really aren’t any reasons to run all of these scans.
Avast checks anything you run, change or add so, once you know your system is clean,
constant scheduled scans really aren’t needed.
Your computer, your choice.

  1. You should be able to use the Eicar test site as that has both http and https transmission of the test file/s.

  2. Since there is nothing in the Scan Settings - Scheduling - in relation of missed time, I would suspect it would only wait for the next occurrence.

  • With a resident (on-access) scanner the need for on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part dormant/inert files are being scanned, the other active files are going to be scanned by the resident shields when they are activated.
  1. Even if this were possible, it would really slow startup, running a scan whilst windows and programs are starting. The regular resident on-access scanning would be going on at that time also.

  2. There are two sets of exclusions Global and Shield level exclusions, Global would cover on-demand/scheduled scans.

Thank you!

You’re welcome.
